What is the difference between a
dynamic and static
IP addresses ?
A Dynamic IP addresses changes every time you connect to the Internet.
A static IP address is reserved only for you and does not change over time.
Broadband or dialup residential internet connections use dynamic IP addresses, usually only commercial leased lines and servers have static IPs because they always need to be reached at the same address.
The IP addresses available are currently limited so your Internet Service Provider will assign you an IP address from a pool; the IP address is then freed and put back into the pool of available IP addresses when you disconnect.
