Crystal eyed the poster on her school billboard.
Transental Fair. May 11th, 12:30.
Crystal jumped as Ashley tapped her on the shoulder. "Hello, earth to Crystal!"
"Ash! You scared me!"
"You're not actually thinking about going to this, are you?" Ashley ripped the poster down off the billboard, and held it in her hands.
"Why not? It seems pretty cool."
"It's just a way for no-name bands to get publicity. Nobody really goes to the fairs anyway."
Whatever. Crystal thought.
"I gotta get to home-room. Cya after school." Ashley tossed the flyer down on the ground, and when no one was looking, Crystal took it.
Gently folding it into her pocket, Crystal made it to her home-room class just in time.
--
1:30. Aaron and his family pulled up in his driveway.
Ah, Home Sweet Home. He thought to himself as he took in a deep breath of the fresh air.
"Feels good to be back, doesn't it?" Aaron's sister, Angel, commented. She reached in the car trunk and pulled out the lightest suit case to carry in the house.
"Yeah, it does. Hey, why do you always pick the lightest things?"
"'My arm's always hurt." Angel smiled, and carried the bag into the house. Aaron soon followed Angel into the house.
After the family unloaded all the baggage from the car, they settled down for a little relaxation. The past few weeks have been so hectic for Aaron and his family. Each day Aaron was being called to a new location. Sometimes on a 2 hour notice. Aaron let out a huge sigh as he heard his phone ring.
"Hello?" Aaron's mom, Jane, picked it up, knowing it was a fan of one of her boys.
"Hi! Oh wow, um, this is Cathi. Is this the Carter house?" The girl on the other line was so nervous she was shaking. Jane could tell.
"No, I'm sorry. You have the wrong number." Jane hung up the phone and decided to go lay down in bed for a while. Rest was something she had been missing lately. Especially with her oldest son, Nick, in the pop group "Backstreet Boys." and her youngest son, Aaron, a budding pop star himself.
Aaron let out another loud sigh, as he tried to fall asleap. Yet, the harder he tried, the harder it was for him.
--
Crystal slowly layed her head on her desk, in boredom. The school day was almost over, but for Crystal it felt like the end of the day would never come.
Hey. Crystal. School's over, get up!
Huh?
Wake up!
Crystal picked her head up off the desk. "Finally." She mumbled to no one in peticular.
"Hey Crystal, wait up!" Crystal's friend, Yvonne, was calling her from down the hallway.
"What?"
"Do you wanna come to the Westchester Center with me today? I'm gonna go shoot some hoops!"
"Don't you have to be 12 to get in that place?"
"Yep. My brother is going to come with me and say I'm 12. Plus, we both turn 12 on May 10th anyway!" Yvonne smiled. She was the type of person that would have a solution to your problem 5 minutes before you even told her the problem.
Just what I need. A bunch of smelly teenagers sweating all over me, while I watch Yvonne play basketball.
"Sounds fun."
She better not expect me to play.
--
Crystal took a final look at herself in the mirror. She had changed her clothing attire at least 4 times before Yvonne started yelling for her from the livingroom. She wore her dark blonde hair down, as usual, allowing a few strands to hide her eyes if she looked the right way.
"Crystal! We're going to the WC! You don't need to look like the best dressed person there!" Yvonne complained, as Crystal put the final touches on her wardobe.
A silver chained necklace with a silver ring on the end.
This was her favorite peice of jewelery. Her best friend, Amy, had given her this friendship ring before she moved to New Zealand. They still keep in-touch with letters, but Crystal still wished she could still see her, in person.
"Okay, Yvonne, I am ready now!"
The 2 piled into Yvonne's brothers car.
"You owe me for this." Jack, her brother, exclaimed. He was 17 years old, and the only reason he agreed to take Yvonne and Cyndi to the Westchester Center is because he was meeting a girl there.
"Thank you so much!" Yvonne exclaimed, a little to exitedly, as they pulled up in the parking lot of the center.
--
Aaron awoke to the sounds of his mom doing the dishes.
"Mom, you shouldn't be doing the dishes!"
"They need to be done, Aaron. Somebody has to do them in this house." Jane said, as she was loading the dishwasher.
"I'll finish it for you. I just took a nap anyway." Aaron offered.
"Thank you, Aaron. I appreciate that."
"Now you go rest!" Aaron laughed. His mom always tried to over-do things. In other words, she was an 'over-acheiver' or a perfectionist. She wouldn't rest untill everything was how she wanted it.
Aaron glanced at the dishes that lay in the dishwasher. I'm not gonna do this all by myself!
"Angel, wanna help me with the dishwasher?" Aaron yelled, not knowing where Angel was. At first he thought she didn't hear him untill she came into the kitchen.
Woah. She looks like she just tried raised the dead or something. No, it looks like she is the dead!
She was wearing red plaid pajama pants, and a light blue tank top. Her hair was in a low pony tail, with messy strands hanging out. She had obviously tossed and turned many times during her sleep.
Aaron loaded another dish in the dishwasher.
"Hey, you're not the one who has to answer the same questions over and over at boring press conferences!" Aaron defended himself.
Angel shot him a look, and without saying a word walked over to the sink and began to rinse off the dishes.
Aaron grabbed another bowl to load in the dishwasher. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." Angel finally smiled. "Looks like you have company..."
The doorbell rang a second time. "Dare me to get it?" Angel grinned, as she looked out of the peep-hole. 2 girls, around 13 years old, were standing at the door.
"You look horrible. Be sure not to scare them." Aaron joked. Angel shot him a look, watching him disapear into the livingroom so he wouldn't be seen by the fans.
"Hi." Angel opened the door, and peered her face out.
"Oh my god! Hi!"
"And you are?"
"Helen." The girl on the right spoke.
"I'm Adrianna" The other girl spoke. They both played around with the cameras in their hands, but Angel supposed they were too shocked to take pictures.
"Well, I have to be getting back to bed now. Nice meeting you." Angel secretly rolled her eyes, as she shut the door.
"All clear."
--
"Come on, Crystal! Please play!"
"I don't want to. I knew if I came you would try and make me play!" Crystal sat at a picnic table inside the Westchester Center watching certian people play basketball. --Mostly the guys. It slipped Crystals mind that she was only 11, and began drooling over a peticular boy playing basketball with his friends. Crystal guessed he was around 14 years old.
I cannot believe we just met Angel Carter!
I know! Oh my god! She looked terrible though! I hope we didn't wake her up.
Crystal over heard 2 girls talking. They were sitting at the picnic table next to the one she was sitting at, alone. Since she had nothing better to do, she went over and sat across from them.
"Hi guys. Who are you talking about?" She curiously asked.
"Angel Carter!" One of the girls responded.
"We just met her!" The other said.
"Oh. Is she an actress or something?"
The 2 girls laughed for a few minutes, before speaking up. "Angel Carter is Aaron and Nick Carters sister. We went to his house today, and she answered the door."
"Oooh." Crystal laughed at herself. "I know who you're talking about now. Sorry, I wasn't really thinking."
I have no idea who they are talking about! Crystal's thoughts.
"By the way, I'm Helen, and this is Adrianna."
"I'm Crystal."
"Hi. Did you know Aaron will be singing at the Transental Fair?"
"Oh my gosh! Really?" Crystal decided to use her acting talents. She had no clue who Nick, Aaron, or Angel Carter was. She just didn't want to look like a dork infront of 2, obviously very popular, girls.
"Yeah. We're both going." Adrianna said, so softly you could barly hear her.
"Backstage!" Helen noted.
"How?"
"We have our little ways." Helen widely grinned.
"We've got to get going. Bye Crystal. I'll see you at the fair."
--
Ashley sat in her room. No Answer. She tried calling Crystal's phone number several times, but there was no answer each time.
C'mon Crys! Pick up. She hummed to herself as she dialed the number for the millionth time.
She was so positive someone would pick up this time. Lucky 14. She thought.
Hanging up the phone for the last time, Ashley decided to give up. She'd left 4 messages, so hopefully Crystal would return her calls when she returned home.
I hope that's soon. Ashley continued to think.
--
2 days later...
"Happy birthday Crystal"
Crystal and Ashley met at their usuall spot by the billboards before home-room.
"Where's Yvonne? I need to wish her a happy birthday too." Crystal looked around, but discovered no one was in site.
"Doesn't it suck that you 2 have the same birthdays?"
"No, its really fun actually. We get to share everything together. It's like having a sister, kind of."
"I know I would hate it." Ashley commented, not even a beat after Crystal finished her sentence. This made it clear that Ashley wasn't really listening to what Crystal was saying.
"You're not listening to me, are you?"
"Yes I am!" Ashley defended herself.
"Ok. So are you seriously gonna skip the fair tomorrow?"
"Yeah! I wouldn't be caught dead there." Ashley rolled her eyes.
What's that supposed to mean?
Aaron opened his notebook, and began to study the pages.
He ofton kept a small notebook with him to keep note of the things he was up to. This time he was reading over his notes on his past trip.
May 7th...
12:30p.m - ARG! Another conference. My dad says this is the last one for a while. I doubt it. There's been a lot of little 'suprises' this week.
4:50p.m - 'Hey Aaron, got a girlfriend?' Man I could just kill that reporter. How many times have I seen her? like 40!
9:00p.m - All I can say is "Finally!" I'm going home tomorrow! I've been away for so long, I miss all my friends! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE performing for people who enjoy my music, but I've been getting really homesick. I've got to go. I'll write later.
-Aaron "AIRBOY"
Aaron shut the notebook when he heard a knock on his door.
"What are you doing?" Angel cracked the door open a little.
"I was just going over my notebook."
"You mean you were reading your diary?" She raised an eyebrow.
"It's a notebook!"
Angel walked in and shut the door behind her. "Sure it is."
"Well, what did you want?"
"Bored, I guess. BJ, Nick and Dad are in the livingroom watching Infomercials."
"Again?" Aaron asked. He tossed the notebook to his side, and shifted his position on his bed to make himself more comfortable.
"Yeah. I don't know what's up with them, or what their planning on buying. All I have to say is, it better be good!"
"Oh yeah. Hey, wanna go for a ride on my mo-ped?"
"It's almost 8, I don't think Dad will let us."
"Yeah they will! Nobody can see who I am with my helmit on."
"You're right. Let's go ask"
--
"You can't be serious, can you?" Ashley remaked at Crystal.
Crystal stood infront of her full-length mirror, searching for the right outfit. She had on a pair of black shorts, and a blank tanktop with butterflies around the rim.
"Do you think this is too dark and depressing?" Crystal turned around, making sure to get a good view of her back-side before changing clothes again.
"It looks fine, Crys. Why do you have to look perfect? It's a fair!"
"It's an important fair!" Crystal responded. She walked over to her drawers to get out another tank top.
Crystal threw about 4 tank's on the bed and motioned for Ashley to pick one.
"That one, I guess. Crys, why is this fair so important?"
"He's gonna be there!"
Crystal quickly changed shirts, and looked at Ashley for an opinion.
"The black one looks better."
Ugh! Why can't I find the right shirt!
"Who's 'he'?"
"Aaron."
"Aaron who?"
"Aaron... something. I don't know his last name, but that isn't important!" Crystal threw her other tank on the floor and changed into another one. This time it was a white one with blank around the edges.
If this doesn't look good I'm gonna freak! Crystal eyed herself in the mirror.
"You spend more time in the mirror than anyone I know!"
"I have to look good, don't I?"
--
Aaron and Angel pulled up in the gas station lot. "Can I borrow some money for gas?"
"Aaron!"
"I know, I know. I owe you like 10 bucks already. I promise i'll pay you."
Angel hesitated, yet coughed up a few dolars for Aaron to get some gas and soda. "You would think that someone like you would keep money on them!"
"Very funny."
--
"Crystal, I have to go get gas for the car. Do you and Ashley wanna come with?" Crystals dad was standing in the doorway, waiting for a responce.
He knew Crystal didn't want to come, but she didn't really have a choice, and they both knew that.
"Um, not really. But I know I have to."
"You got that right." He smiled.
--
Mmm... Sprite or Dr. Pepper. Thinking hard about his choice in Soda, he wasn't disturbed by the ringing sound of the door when opened.
"Dr. Pepper, or Sprite." Aaron mumbled quietly to himself.
If I was the freezer, which one would I want gone first. Dr. Pepper, or Sprite... Aaron thought, as he opened the freezer door and grabbed one of each bottle.
Meanwhile, while Crystal's dad Jack payed for the gas, Ashley and Crystal were roaming the store.
"I'm gonna get a pop for later. We're all out!" Crystal noted as she walked back to the freezers.
Ashley soon followed.
"So, tell me about this Aaron boy. Is he cute?" Ashley raised her eyebrows.
"I've never seen him." Crystal opened the freezer, almost knocking the person next to him.
"Oh, Sorry." He said, stepping aside.
Keep going. Talk about the 'Aaron boy' again!
"Do you want some Root Beer?" Crystal pulled a can out.
"Yeah, sure. But I don't have any money..." Ashley's voice drouned out as Crystal got further away from her. She was walking towards the register.
Aaron followed. Unoticed.
"So, if you don't know what this boy looks like, you don't know his last name, and you've never met him before, what makes you think you'll meet him at the fair?" Ashley leaned on the counter while Crystal payed for the 2 Root Beers.
Aaron stood behind them, acting like he was waiting to pay for something.
"Trust me, Ash. I'll know it's him." Crystal grabbed the 2 Root Beer's and left, without waiting for a responce from Ashley.
Ashley hesitated, and ran out the door to catch up with her.
Aaron smiled to himself. Trust me, I'll know it's him. The words replayed in his mind. Were they talking about him? I guess he wouldn't find out untill the fair.
--
"Get you're cotton candy! Anybody want cotton candy? I know you want some..."
May 11th arrived. It was the day of the fair, and for Crystal, that meant meeting the mysterious 'Aaron Boy' Helen and Adrianna were talking about.
It never crossed Crystal's mind that she couldn't meet him. She was used to getting whatever she wanted, and if she couldn't have this there's no telling what she'll do.
Yvonne was the only one that would go with her. "Thanks for coming, Yvonne." Crystal took a few moments to show her appreciation.
"No sweat. It's cool. So what are we supposed to do?"
Yvonne looked around. A farris wheel, a tilt-a-whirl, food stands, and a stage. Not her ideal fair, it's safe to say.
"Look. There's a bunch of girls by the stage. Let's go over there." Crystal's intentions didn't even cross Yvonne's mind.
Crystal stood around talking to a group of girls for a while. Yvonne was getting bored, but there was no use in telling this to Crystal. She was obviously having way to much fun.
How do I get out of this? Oh, I know... "I have to go to the bathroom."
--
"You nervous?" Jane walked up to Aaron backstage, and put her arm around his shoulder.
"No."
"You're drinking eccesive amounts of coke. You only do that when you're nervous."
"Okay, fine." Jane had nailed him. But what did he expect? She's his mother.
Jane waited for a responce.
"I just have this weird feeling. Like, I'm gonna mess up. I just know it! I'm gonna forget my words, or slip on some extra water. Something's gonna happen." He took another gulp his coke, finishing the last drop. He set the cup down on the small coffee table next to him.
"I think I'm gonna go to the bathroom now. Too much coke."
--
Where did that guard say the porta-potties were? Yvonne thought out loud. Straight to the ferris wheel, then turn right. She heard his voice in her head.
Out Of Order.
The sign stuck to the wall of the porta-potty.
"Great, just great!" Yvonne thought out loud.
"Need some help?" A strange woman walked up to her.
"Well, I have to go to the bathroom. But, it's out of order!"
"It will only be out of order for another 10 minutes or so. They are working on getting another one out here. Can you wait that long?" The woman laughed. Yvonne noticed that when she laughed her nostrils flaired up really big, which made Yvonne laugh.
"I guess I could."
"Hey, I'll tell ya what. Follow me."
--
"I really gotta goooo, I gotta go, I gotta go." Aaron stood outside the unisex bathroom waiting for the person inside to get out. They had been in it for at least a couple minutes, already.
Aaron continued to hum to himself.
--
"Right this way." The woman guided Yvonne. "If they ask how you got back here, just tell them Jenny, and show them this." Jenny handed Yvonne a small green sticker with the words "VIP" written on them.
Yvonne didn't know what to do with the sticker, so she stuck it in her back pocket.
"Here you are. Looks like you have a little wait." Jenny laughed, as she motioned to a door with a boy standing outside of it humming.
"Thank you." Yvonne said, as she walked up to get a better listen of the song.
"I gotta gooo, I, IIIIIII gotta g--" He stoped humming when he realized Yvonne was listening.
"That's OK. Keep going." She laughed.
"I think I'll pass. And just so you know, I get the bathroom as soon as this person gets out!"
"Okay. So, whats your name?"
"Aaron. What about you? Are you an act?"
"I'm Yvonne. If that's too hard, you could just call me E. No, i'm not an act. Just a girl who had to go to the bathroom, but the porta-pottys were out of order."
"Okay, E, How did you get back here?"
"Uhm, Jenny." Yvonne took the sticker out from her back pocket and showed Aaron.
"You should stick that on your shorts or something. Then you can stay back here and meet all the other acts."
All the other acts? He's an Act? Oh my gosh! He's that boy Crystal was talking about.. Wasn't he?
Crystal had been standing in the clump of girls for a while now.
"What time does this concert start?" Crystal asked a random girl standing next to her.
"In about 10 minutes, probably."
"OK." Crystal looked around for any sight of Yvonne.
I bet she's ok. I shouldn't be worried about her. Crystal thought this to comfort her. She was a little worried, she couldn't deny that. But then again, she did say that she had to go to the bathroom. Maybe she has a serious case of the dumps.
At this point the crowd was getting larger, and Crystal made sure she was dead center in the front row. She peeked behind herself to get a few of all the people behind her.
Woah! She thought to herself. She had never been to a "concert" before, so she didn't really know what to expect. All she knew was she wanted to be in the center, to see this Aaron boy upclose.
The croud started hushing, then gradually got louder as the announcer walked out onstage.
"Welcome everybody, to the Transental Fair's 4th annual concert. Today we have 5 great acts for you. The first act comes to you from Ricky! He will be performing 'Everybody Get Down' Now lets show him a welcome!" The announcer started clapping and the girls started screaming, as Ricky appered. His back was facing the audience, and as the music started he jumped around, and started his dance routine.
"Girl, are you crying tears of joy, crying tears of pain? Babe, you say you will turn away, and keep me from standing in the rain..." Ricky's voice flowed nicely, and his good looks definitly helped him.
The crowd was loving him, and by the end of his 3rd song, Yvonne still wasn't back yet...
--
Aaron was backstage, playing soccer with a few other of the acts. One of the backstage moniters told Yvonne she could watch the concert from backstage if she wanted. Aaron would see to it that she met him again before the whole show was over.
"Aaron! Ricky's on his last song! You're up next, hurry!!!"
--
Ashley sat in her livingroom, watching TV. She had nothing to do, because all of her friends were at the fair.
If I went to the fair, I would be going against everything I said before. I can't do that.
Finding nothing on TV, she went to her room to try and sleep. If she wasn't awake, then she wouldn't have to think about what she was missing at the fair.
Maybe i'll go... and say i'm there to meet Aaron. Yeah, that's what I'll do.
--
Yvonne was watching Aaron backstage. She didn't feel like going out in the front row with Crystal, and being screamed at by tons of people.
She couldn't help but notice that Aaron was contstantly turning around, looking back at her.
Meanwhile, Crystal was begining to get bored. She had missed the announcer announce the next act, and the boy she was watching wasn't exactly entertaining, in her opinion.
Why are these girls freeking out so much? This boy is horrible.
"What's his name?" Crystal struggled to be heard over the screams.
"AARON!"
Aaron??? No! He can't be Aaron! "I've got a crush on you!?" Nobody says that anymore!
Crystal stood dead still staring at him. He looked awfully familar, but she couldn't put her finger on it.
--
Ashley entered the fair, nervously looking around to make sure Crystal wasn't watching her.
Where do I go? Ashley looked around. Oh, duh. Maybe over where the stage is.
She slapped herself on the head and headed over to the huge crowd.
Ashley squinted her eyes, in protection over the sun. The sunlight was killing her eyes, and to top that off she could barly see the stage. The crowd was so far back, it was definitly the biggest concert the fair has ever had.
--
Aaron looked down at all the girls. He scanned the crowd to see if he could find anyone he knew. Suddenly his eyes focused on a peticular girl in the front row.
They recognized each other at the same time.
